For nearly two decades, the 3/Thirds team — both collectively and individually — has partnered with Outrigger Resorts, helping them navigate a dynamic landscape of ownership changes and market fluctuations, while always staying true to the company’s core values. In addition to championing Outrigger’s brand story and incredible island destinations, we have carefully balanced culture and place with fundamental business objectives.


The challenge
In an increasingly competitive tropical destination market, Outrigger Resorts needed a cohesive marketing strategy that not only retained past guests, but also attracted a new wave of travelers. Communicating the intrinsic Hawaiian spirit and unique brand experiences across multiple channels while maintaining a consistent brand message was a primary challenge.


What we noticed
We discovered that the greatest successes emerged when we focused on their distinct brand story intertwined with the allure of their island destinations. By threading stories that celebrated both the inherent beauty of the islands, the vibrant culture that defines them, and Outrigger’s beachfront properties, we managed to balance cultural celebration and beach-time fun with the critical business objective of maximizing resort bookings.
For example, integrating local culture into marketing narratives elevated the experience for guests, helping them connect with Hawaiian traditions and Outrigger’s special brand of hospitality. This approach not only strengthened guest loyalty, but also positioned Outrigger as a leader that blends cultural authenticity with commercial success.

Impact
From Cyber Week promotions to booking campaigns, there have been many initiatives and many successes. One example is the “Give Hawaii” campaign, developed to help grow their email database. The sweepstakes attracted nearly 200,000 visits and over 84,000 votes/entries, far exceeding the goal of 10,000 new email subscribers.
Our work has helped Outrigger Resorts enhance its position as a leader in the hospitality industry by weaving compelling narratives that connect with travelers’ aspirations. Our strategies celebrate the spirit of place and guests, ensuring that Outrigger is seen as a quintessential example of where local culture meets world-class hospitality.
