Nike Grind
25 Year Celebration
and Summit
Installation & Event

The challenge
A 25-year sustainability program is a big deal. But you know what’s an even bigger deal? When that program surpasses 130 million tons of recycled material.
The Nike Grind program has become an incredibly successful global recycling program, supported by a handful of innovative companies who turn Nike Grind waste into all-new products. But sadly, very few people, even people within Nike, know much about it.
So, the challenge was to find a way to celebrate this significant milestone, give thanks to its supportive partners – but also educate and inspire makers to create sustainably.

What we noticed
We recognized the unique opportunity in front of us. With people gathering for the 25th anniversary, we could build an immersive, engaging event to drive home the Nike Grind story.
The event kicked off with a walk-through gallery that premiered on Earth Day. This gallery featured the history of Nike Grind, its material innovations, and products, complete with 3D video loop and a 10-foot-high plexiglass showpiece filled with Nike Grind materials spelling out 25.
Additionally, we organized a “Maker’s Summit” held at Nike — an all-day event beginning with a morning run led by Olympian Joan Benoit-Samuelson. The summit included speakers, panel discussions, and product demos, fostering an exchange of ideas among designers, makers, and manufacturers about the potential of Nike Grind.

Impact
The event (plus associated happy hour gatherings and campus tours) was deemed a huge success. Partners flew in from around the world and Nike employees simply stepped away from their desk, crossed campus to learn and be inspired. During the event there was an open exchange of ideas between designers, makers and manufacturers about what’s possible with Nike Grind and recycled materials.
The gallery remained open and available for viewing for a month and was visited by thousands of people, employees and visitors alike, who witnessed firsthand, the impact and the potential of this amazing program that is helping Nike reach its sustainability goals.
