TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION

The challenge

Longtime 3/Thirds client, Autodesk, is a driving force behind the transformation of the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries. Their advanced, integrated technology, grounded in deep knowledge and partnership, is helping the industry rise to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) lies at the core of that promise. But as digital and cloud capabilities grew, the AEC industry had varying degrees of familiarity with BIM. Therefore, it was important for Autodesk to have a clear and compelling way to visually communicate the intricacies of the BIM lifecycle, from planning and design to construction and operations.

What we noticed

BIM is much more than a product or technology, it’s a holistic process of creating and managing information for a built asset within an intelligent 3D model. By transforming data into a dynamic, shared visualization, BIM enables vastly improved decision-making, high-performance outcomes sustainable, cost-savings and more.

Visualization is the key to BIM. So we took that as our launch point. We used the 3D design of a building to showcase the many layers and facets of the Autodesk BIM story.

What we delivered

Numerous 3D design iterations for hero banners, presentations, digital display and social • Multiple videos • Landing page UX and visual designs • Icon library creation •
High-level strategy and messaging for web pages, audience interviews, research

Impact

BIM City began as a single graphic. It ended up visually unifying Autodesk’s BIM narrative and enabling a mountain of cohesive and connected storytelling opportunities. The visuals became a way to express a timely, essential story about digital transformation. The messaging we crafted helped frame the vision of a brand poised to help their customers move into a digital future.
